[Up and down twice]
This would be another one of my training hikes up and down the Yoshida trail. The sky was very cloudy but thankfully there was not much rain forecast this time. I arrived early afternoon and this time I was carrying a little less than I had on my previous trip a few weeks earlier. I was planning on going up and down the Yoshida trail twice.
I set out around 13:30 and walked non-stop to the summit in 2 hours 30 minutes and then returned back to the 5th Station by 19:00. There were not so many people with it being a week day and the going had been good. I again rested in the main souvenior shop until about 22:00 and by 22:30 I was packed up and ready to head back up to the summit again. I had planned on stopping and resting a little more on the second ascent simply because I didn't want to spend too much time on the summit before sunrise but I again ended up walking more or less non-stop back to the summit.
I had to wait several hours before the sun came up before making my way back down. Although it didn't rain much, it was very cloudy and it wasn't until I was heading back down that the sun finally managed to burn through the cloud layer. Then it was bright sunshine all the way back to the 5th Station. I didn't wait too long either before I was on a bus heading back towards Tokyo.
This particular visit had been all about just training for the Mt. Fuji Race. The race was now less than 2 weeks away and I really had no idea if I would be able to do it or not. Whatever happened, I was intent giving it a go !
